We are pleased to announce that after four years of hard endeavour we have received all the necessary Permissions to enable the conversion of Abbey Gate, Evesham, to proceed. This complex is Grade I Listed and all the site surrounding the buildings is a Scheduled Ancient Monument – a knotty problem indeed. Abbey Gate was originally the gate house and one of the storage barns attached to Evesham Monastery. It was built in the early 1300s and possesses one of the best medieval “slypes” in the Country. This is also known as “the dark passage” and was used by the Monks for carrying left over food from the Refectory to the Almoners Court where the starving poor were fed. There are medieval accounts which record that the Monks often went hungry (and somewhat dispiritedly) in order to feed their less fortunate brethren.

The attached photo shows Abbey Gate as it currently exists awaiting its transformation and rebirth.
