The summer has been an interesting time for the Practice with the building industry recession which has been ongoing since 2008 finally arriving in Stow-on-the-Wold. Compared to our normal range of new commissions those during the summer were generally smaller and less complicated.

On a positive note, however, the autumn has produced its usual crop of commissions and we are currently working on a very substantial extension to the factory we did for Bushell & Meadows in Tewkesbury some 7 years ago. It will be interesting to determine how much the Building Regulations have changed regarding the conservation of power as the World wakes up to the existence of global warming and the need to reduce energy consumption wherever possible.

On the subject of heat Delyth and I, with our family, were very kindly invited by our Clients to stay in "Ithilien" on the Greek Island of Paxos. The house has attained practical completion and is now beautifully furnished complete with an operational swimming pool. The garden will take a little longer to finish and we are commissioned to oversee the construction of the hard landscaping of some 1.5 acres of sloping hillside. We will be working in collaboration with a Greek Landscape Architect from Corfu Town and look forward to a most interesting year. The planting is scheduled to begin in October 2014.

On other matters we are progressing with the working drawings for a major new house in North London and have recently received a commission to provide a natural swimming pond with ancillary buildings at one of our previous projects. It is always gratifying to have commissions from existing Clients as it demonstrates the confidence they feel in both our design and technical abilities.
