Eastabrook Architects were commended for this design submitted in a competition for a new Tourist Centre and Civic Offices in Kilkenny, Ireland. We were in the top six Practices selected in this European wide competition. The designs reflect the surrounding buildings and especially the Castle for which the City is famous.
The river frontage is used to generate interest in the design and utilizes the river breezes for natural cooling in the summer. It was also intended to use the river water with heat pumps for heating and cooling. The tourist centre is a circular building in stone with a partially grassed roof proposed for environmental reasons and to reflect the image of the Castle.
The attached computer generated images were produced in-house by Eastabrook Architects. Andy Lucas and Jeremy Rose were responsible for the design and the presentation of this competition entry.
